Colin Kaepernick Nike ad riles President Trump

Nike Le Bron 16 HFR

Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers quarter-back, is now without an NFL team after he became the first player to take a knee during the national anthem before a match.

The campaign has already spurred rigorous debate, calls for boycotts and videos posted on social media of people burning their Nike apparel. Trump chimed in on Twitter on Wednesday, saying Nike was "getting absolutely killed with anger and boycotts". I'm not gonna speak for them, but there was no one happy about it.

The management of a Colorado Springs sporting goods store has made a decision to stop selling Nike merchandise after the company featured Colin Kaepernick in a new marketing campaign, KRDO reports. "Even if it means sacrificing everything", the athletic gear company received criticism from many, such as Taya Kyle, widow of late Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, and President Donald Trump.

Emergency on US Gulf Coast as Storm Gordon strikes
Miami Beach Police said via Twitter that the Labor Day holiday was "NOT a beach day", with rough surf and potential rip currents. Gordon has been marching up from the Florida keys, lashing south Florida with rain and tropical storm-force winds.

The former 49ers quarterback is revealed as the narrator toward the end of the spot.

On Monday, Williams, 36, tweeted a Nike ad of a young girl playing tennis that read, "It's only a insane dream until you do it". He began kneeling during The National Anthem before NFL games as a silent protest against what he suggests is an ongoing oppression against people of color.

While Nike has received a lot of criticism, others have come out in support.

Brazil's top electoral court bars Lula da Silva from running for presidency
A party statement said the court had bowed to the wishes of Brazil's elites to stop Lula returning to office. Lula has said the case amounts to a right-wing coup to keep him from winning the presidency.

Kaepernick, 30, hasn't played in the NFL since and is accusing the league of colluding to keep him off the field because of the player protests he instigated. Most business and brand observers said Nike seemed to have weighed the risks in running the Kaepernick ad, with Nike's core customers considered to be primarily young, diverse urbanites who are more likely to be "belief-driven buyers".

The NFL season kicks off Thursday night on NBC Charlotte with the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles.

Nike's stock price fell by almost 4% when Kaepernick first revealed he was fronting the campaign on social media. "Ask if they're insane enough".
