Asian shares gain on U.S.-China trade talks, lira recovers

The spokesperson, speaking on condition of anonymity, said there was no indication that Turkish authorities are considering asking for financial assistance from the Washington-based International Monetary Fund. The arrest comes after German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas urged Ankara on Monday to do more to improve its troubled diplomatic ties with both Germany and the United States, which would also help to ease Ankara's current economic woes. The Australian dollar strengthened against the USA dollar on Thursday as the crisis engulfing Turkey's lira calmed for a moment, although sentiment remained negative.
