Pence receives Korean War remains in somber ceremony

North Korea Might Be Working On New ICBMs

Vice President Mike Pence is in Hawaii Wednesday to receive what are believed to be the remains of dozens of US service members who fought in the Korean War.

The Washington Post has reported that North Korea appears to be secretly building new intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs).

The memorial was attended by Vice President Mike Pence, his wife and two individuals who had lost their fathers during the Korean War.

"Today we proved these heroes were never forgotten", he said. Kim pledged the "complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula", at the summit, but the short agreement said nothing about inspections or a verification process to make sure North Korea follows through.

Vice President Mike Pence and the top commander of USA forces in Asia, Adm. Phil Davidson, formally received the remains contained in 55 caskets during an emotional and solemn ceremony Wednesday after they arrived by military cargo jets from South Korea.

Pence looked on solemnly with his hand over his heart as the long, narrow boxes were gently laid on the stanchions in front of him. The lab is the largest and most diverse skeletal identification laboratory in the world and is staffed by more than 30 anthropologists, archaeologists and forensic odonatologists, United Nations Command release.

Trump Calls Out Mueller for 'Conflicts of Interest'
Mueller is investigating whether Trump campaign officials worked with Moscow to try to sway the 2016 US presidential election. Trump's lawyer has said he expects Mueller to file a report by September 1.

The 55 boxes fulfill a promise, after some delay, by North Korea's leader to U.S. President Donald Trump during their meeting in Singapore on June 12.

North and South Korea held military talks to build trust yesterday, while the USA detected renewed activity at a North Korean missile factory.

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said last week that the USA did not know whose remains were actually in the returned caskets.

The remains of 55 U.S. servicemen who fought for the country during the Korean War were finally sent back home from North Korea yesterday. Between 1990 and 1994, North Korea unilaterally handed over 208 caskets to the United States, which turned out to contain remains of far more than 208 individuals, although forensics specialists thus far have established 181 identities.

Many Americans who went missing were prisoners of war who died before the war ended or were left behind during enemy advancements.

More than 7,700 USA troops remain unaccounted for from the Korea War.

Trump following Manafort updates as trial kicks off
They said he was embezzling money and later lied about it to investigators - before agreeing to flip and testify against Manafort. Gates pleaded guilty in February and agreed to cooperate with the Mueller investigation on "all matters" they deem relevant.

North Korea has provided very little information to help identify the remains, a defense official told VOA.

The remains recovered last week were the first received by the USA since 2005, when efforts to repatriate bodies stopped amid tensions between Washington and Pyongyang.

The Korean War began on June 25, 1950, and lasted until an armistice was reached on July 27, 1953. But there have been worries that North Korea hasn't since taken any serious disarmament measures.

Mr Trump later suspended annual military drills with South Korea which North Korea had long called an invasion rehearsal.

Meanwhile, US Democrats in Congress remain largely in the dark on the administration's plans with regards to a path forward with North Korea and skepticism over Kim's intentions.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recognized amid Senate declaration a week ago that North Korean production lines "continue to produce fissile material" used as a part of making atomic weapons.

Iran Rejects Trump’s Offer of Talks as ‘Humiliation’
Other signatories are working with Iran to try to save the agreement while Washington begins reimposing sanctions on Tehran . The US and Iran have become more hostile since America's withdrawal from the landmark nuclear accord.
