Trump talks family separation at border with GOP

"To watch those families broken apart in real time puts to us a very simple question: are we a nation that accepts the cruelty of ripping children from their parents' arms, or are we a nation that values families, and works to keep them together?" he said.

After huddling for 45 minutes with fellow Republicans to discuss immigration, Trump exited a meeting room only to be shouted at by a handful of House Democrats angry over the thousands of children who have been separated from their parents as they cross into the country. Over 2,300 children have been separated from their parents since the policy was enacted.

For days, Trump and his top administration officials were unwilling to unilaterally reverse the separation policy, insisting that congressional action was required. Upon leaving that meeting, Sessions said he had been "working with the White House and others all morning" on the family separation issue.

The first lady has been working for several days behind the scenes, encouraging the President to keep families together, a White House official told CNN. Claire McCaskill, picked up on Trump's talking point and blamed Democrats - without addressing the reality that the family separations are the result of a Trump administration policy and without taking a position on the policy.

Medical providers who have visited the facilities say they are safe and clean, but the children are often crying and acting out.

But speaking to small business owners earlier in the day, the president made it clear he isn't budging on his decision to separate adults who enter the country illegally from their children. "There will not be a grandfathering of existing cases", Health and Human Services Department spokesperson Kenneth Wolfe said. "I didn't like the sight or the feeling of families being separated".

"We want to keep families together".

Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, who represents the suburbs north of Philadelphia, issued a strongly worded statement on Monday but did not mention Trump, instead calling on Congress to act to stop the separation of families.

Trump had tweeted earlier Wednesday that he was "working on something", once again blaming Democrats for refusing to support Republican legislation created to keep families detained together after they're arrested at the border. "We have record-setting numbers in every way economically, but we want to solve this immigration problem, which is going on for four years more".

The order also provides that the Department of Homeland Security won't detain an immigrant family together "when there is a concern that detention of an alien child with the child's alien parent would pose a risk to the child's welfare".

House Republican Mario Diaz-Balart said the priority of ending the separations has been slotted into a compromise bill now under consideration and favored by GOP moderates.

Thursday's immigration debate in the House was spurred by another divisive Trump action.

Under the order, the zero-tolerance policy will remain in effect.

Bhutto's delivery said Pakistanis sang and danced in the streets with joy, she also faced criticism for having a second child". The prime minister, who had been given a due date of June 17, only stopped flying to the capital on June 11 .

House GOP leaders are revising their legislation amid a public outcry over President Donald Trump's "zero tolerance" approach to illegal crossings.

Instead, the process requires coordination between Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which holds numerous parents, and HHS, which takes custody of children and places them with adult "sponsors".

Current laws including the Flores Settlement, he argued, simply encouraged people to enter the country with their children, expecting to be caught and then released into USA society.

"He mentioned that his daughter Ivanka had encouraged him to end this and he said he does recognize that it needs to end and the images are painful and he's looking for a legislative solution", CNN reported Florida congressman Carlos Curbelo as saying.

In the Senate, meanwhile, Republicans are rallying behind narrow legislation that would allow detained families to stay together while expediting their deportation proceedings.

With votes scheduled on two pieces of legislation this week in the House, does any have enough support to pass?
