Amber Rudd to resign over Windrush scandal?

Racists—Amber Rudd and Theresa May

The Home Secretary has told MPs she was "not aware" of illegal immigrant removal targets, as she again faced calls to resign.

MPs have said the targets could have led to enforcement officers to target "low-hanging fruit" - people living in the United Kingdom legally but without the correct documents, like numerous "Windrush generation" - a term referring to people invited to Britain to plug labour shortfalls between 1948 and 1971, some of whom have since been labelled as illegal immigrants.

The Labour MP said her office had taken at least two Windrush immigration cases, and claimants told her office they had called the hotline and had been asked to provide extensive documentation, and had mixed messages in promises made by Home Secretary Amber Rudd and their experiences when calling the hotline.

A report published by the Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration showed that for 2014/15 the Home Office set a target of 7,200 Voluntary Departures for illegal immigrants.

On Thursday afternoon the Home Office scrapped those: "I would never support a policy that puts targets ahead of people", said Ms Rudd.

Mulvaney: I Only Talked To Lobbyists Who Donated To My Congressional Campaign
Mulvaney said that trying to sway legislators was one of the 'fundamental underpinnings of our representative democracy". On Tuesday, Mulvaney basically admitted to accepting bribes from lobbyists.

Amber Rudd has so far shrugged off these calls, but she did admit that she should have realized the Home Office's "systemic problem" with regard to the Windrush generation sooner. "Isn't it time that the home secretary considered her honour and resigned?"

She said: "We don't have targets for removals", adding "if you are asking me if there are numbers of people we expect to be removed that's not how we operate". In a 1998 White Paper titled "Fairer, Faster and Firmer - a modern approach to immigration and asylum" the then government set a target for the removal of failed asylum seekers at 12,000.

She was asked to produce a "list of information", Furniss said, including her parents' passports, school records, medical records "and so fourth. and she was just absolutely shocked. she did feel very upset".

Once again, Labour MPs told her to resign.

The Windrush row erupted after it emerged relatives of migrants from Commonwealth Caribbean countries who settled in the United Kingdom from the late 1940s to the 1970s had been declared illegal immigrants if they could not provide a range of documentation which proved they had lived in the United Kingdom continuously.

Although she has been seen in public on barely a handful of occasions, cheeky Charlotte appears to be a born performer. So far, people can't get enough of Charlotte's adorable waves to the crowd, calling her "so cute" and "adorable".

Rudd, who is tipped by some as a future prime minister, also denied a story in the Sun newspaper on Wednesday that she is raising money for a future leadership bid when May resigns.

"I do not want us to be run by a target culture".

The exchange prompted committee chairwoman Yvette Cooper to say the issue needed to be "cleared up" quickly if Ms Rudd and Mr Williams were to avoid claims they were exercising a "lack of grip" on the area. She added that there was "nothing wrong" with trying to remove people who were here illegally, according to the Guardian. There are impact statements from MPs, there are letters from MPs, and she said she wasn't aware of a pattern.

Prime minister Theresa May's spokesman insisted removal targets was a concept which "goes back over a number of decades", and cited ones imposed by Labour governments from 1998 to 2010, although these were aimed at more specific areas such as asylum seekers and foreign prisoners.
