Google Chrome now has a default ad-blocker

It comes after Google in June previous year announced it was building an ad blocker into its Chrome web browser to help improve the user experience by combating annoying and intrusive online advertisements.

Exhausted of annoying online ads?

Google has fired a potentially serious salvo at online publishers after its Chrome web browser began its crackdown on intrusive adverts.

"It's important that we work to maintain a balance - and if left unchecked, disruptive ads have the potential to derail the entire system", he wrote.

"That's why starting on February 15, Chrome will stop showing all ads on sites that repeatedly display these most disruptive ads after they've been flagged". The organisation's Better Ads Standards were developed based on feedback from 40,000 Internet users.

BMW X4 2019 delivers a sportier look and a massive heads-up display
A range of other engine options are being offered, spanning from a 135kW xDrive20i, a 185kW 30i, to a 140kW 20d, and 170kW 25d. However, BMW has chose to forward the second-generation X4 quite prematurely probably due to the state of the competition.

The Better Ads Standards are the result of public consumer research by the Coalition for Better Ads. Those auto-playing videos and the pop-ups are really annoying.

Less than 1% of the web's most-visited sites are set to have their ads blocked, Google said. When a Chrome user navigates to a web page, its ad filter will check if that page belongs to a site that fails the Better Ads Standards. If so, network requests on the page - such as those for JavaScript or images - are checked against a list of known ad-related URL patterns. Its effort focuses on 12 ad formats criticized by a group called the Coalition for Better Ads, whose members include Google, Facebook, News Corp. and the News Media Alliance, which represents 2,000 newspapers in the USA and Canada.

To critics, Google's move looks less like a cleanup than an assertion of dominance - and maybe a crack-down on its competitors.

Google is working with an independent organization called the Coalition for Better Ads.

What happens when Chrome finds bad ads?

If they haven't fixed the problem within 30 days, all of their ads-including ads that are compliant-will be blocked by the browser. "They're concerned about security and privacy, bandwidth and page performance".

The Pro variant of the Redmi Note 5 Pro offers premium features like a dual rear camera unit and a better selfie camera as well. The high-end model has 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage , making it the first Xiaomi smartphone in India with this RAM capacity.

For companies that have websites that accept advertising, Google's plans are a positive move, assuming that the idea is to present the information that's on the site.

Now that Chrome, which has about 60 percent of the browser market, has built-in ad blocking, other browser makers will be taking notice, NetPop's Crandall noted.

Other browser makers already have gone further than Google when it comes to building anti-tracking features into their software, Blanchfield added.

Critics have noted that among the types of ads that are not being targeted are pre-roll video ads, such as the type that run on Google-owned YouTube.
