White House grappling with fallout from aide's resignation

Former White House staff secretary Rob Porter told associates that officials at the White House encouraged him to "stay and fight" rather than resign after a report detailed allegations of domestic abuse, Axios reported Sunday. The allegations were supported by compelling evidence.

According to The Washington Post, a second official - David Sorensen, of Trump's speechwriting team - resigned on Friday, February 9. Although he publicly acknowledged Obama's citizenship in September 2016, Trump reportedly continued to privately question it as recently as November 2017.

Trump's comments fly in the face of a national movement that has swept the nation-from Hollywood to corporate America-encouraging women to come forward with their accounts of sexual violence.

But he was supportive of his former staff secretary.

US Soccer reboots, elects Carlos Cordeiro president
To those of you who didn't vote for me, I'm going to work to earn your support and trust over the next four years. Portuguese American Carlos Cordeiro was elected today 32th president of the United States Soccer Federation.

Speier feels Trump's lack of defense of victims runs contrary to the momentum behind more people speaking out against violence against women. "We immediately confronted the staffer, he denied the allegations and he resigned today", Shah said.

Highlighting a timeline in which Kelly first gained full knowledge of the severity of the allegations and told Porter to leave within 40 minutes, Pirro pointed out that Kelly couldn't have known Porter was a wife-beater beforehand since Porter didn't walk around with a "scarlet letter".

And that's really what matters in this White House.

In the case of Sorensen, his former wife, Jessica Corbett, told Federal Bureau of Investigation agents conducting a background check on her husband that he had run over her foot while driving a auto and extinguished a cigarette on her hand during a turbulent 2 1/2-year marriage. The president's classic response to the allegations was to ask, how does anyone know the bruises weren't there before? The president added, "He also, as you probably know, says he is innocent, and I think you have to remember that".

The glowing praise of a staff member accused of serial violence against women was in line with the president's own denials of sexual impropriety despite accusations from more than a dozen women and his habit of accepting claims of innocence from men facing similar allegations. When the allegations emerged against Porter, who downplayed the claims from two ex-wives, a number of senior aides rallied around him, and the White House acknowledged that personal relationships may have played a role in their response. It's a White House where distinguishing between right and wrong is prohibited.

Those efforts appear to have succeeded for months, at least in part because of the willingness of a virtually all-male staff in the top echelons of the West Wing to believe a talented male colleague over women they had never met.

Peoples lives are being shattered and destroyed by a mere allegation.

The infighting unfolded amid signs of a brewing shake-up in the West Wing.

In her announcement video , she rocked a butterfly necklace and even decorated Stormi's nursery with images of the brightly colored insects.

Kelly, meanwhile, said the only other indication he had that something could be wrong came in November, when he got an update on pending background investigations and learned "there was some things that needed to be looked into".
