Norwegian team scrambles egg order

Chefs for Norway's Winter Olympics team revealed they accidentally ordered 15,000 eggs instead of 1,500

Needing some eggs to feed their athletes while in Pyeongchang, South Korea, the chefs told Norway's Aftenposten newspaper that they'd turned to the online translation tool to help them draft an order for a local grocery store.

Chefs for the athletic delegation from the Arctic Circle nation had a mathematical snafu when placing an order for the next few weeks while in South Korea for the Winter Games.

The mistake apparently came courtesy of Google Translate, which the cooks used to fill out their ingredient list. Their registered 121-strong delegation of athletes and officials would get plenty of protein, eating 124 eggs each.

Derivatives markets indicated, however, that the spike in volatility of the past few days would not be sustained. It said its losses related to the note would not materially impact the bank's finances but didn't quantify them.

The error was only uncovered when a delivery truck arrived, and the stacks of eggs just kept piling up in the kitchen.

Chef Ovrebo said it was important to enjoy the Games as well as scramble for medals.

"The eggs was more like a misunderstanding than something that we needed, so it was an extra zero on the order", chef de mission Tore Ovrebo said, the Post reported.

She said both countries are committed to democracy and human rights and that Canada has provided a "model" for these values. After all that outrage and selective cutting of the video clip, it turns out that a lot of the coverage was misleading.

Fortunately for the chefs, they were let off the hook and allowed to return their massive surplus, and the head of the Norwegian team said it's "not a big issue".

Be careful when using Google Translate, folks. "There was literally no end to the delivery", says Johansen, per USA Today, which notes the situation ended up being a waste of time, not food: The excess eggs were returned.
