How the Facebook algorithm update will change your news feed

In a post on his own Facebook page, Mark Zuckerberg said that Facebook will start to "ask people whether they're familiar with a news source and, if so, whether they trust that source".

Facebook head Mark Zuckerberg announced the new feature in a lengthy post in which he declared he no longer wanted Facebook to be the arbiter of content. Zuckerberg added he wasn't comfortable with Facebook having that responsibility in a "world with so much division". "It will only shift the balance of news you see towards sources that are determined to be trusted by the community", wrote Zuckerberg whose decision to change news feed cost the company billions of dollars. Those scores won't be made public, but outlets with consistently high scores may be distributed more in the site's News Feed. In 2016, Republican U.S. lawmakers expressed concern that Facebook was suppressing news stories of interest to conservative readers. He also promised that Facebook will show lesser unpaid posts from publishers and brands and more content from family and friends. As we announced this month, we're making it easier for people to see local news and information in a dedicated section.

Facebook will prioritize news that is trustworthy, informative, and local from trusted sources to combat fake news and strengthen relationship and engage in active conversations with users. The social-media giant, a major source of news for users, has struggled to deal with an uproar over fake news and Russian-linked posts, meant to influence the 2016 USA elections, on its platform.

Think the Boris Bridge is ambitious? It's nothing compared to these monsters
Mr Macron said Britain and France "share the same destiny" and that their history and geography will not be affected by Brexit . Britain may be leaving the European Union, but Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson wants to build bridges with the Continent.

When we rank and make improvements to News Feed, we rely on a set of core values.

Two years ago, Facebook users saw hoaxes saying Pope Francis endorsed Republican Donald Trump for United States president and that a federal agent investigating Democrat Hillary Clinton was found dead.

"The first changes you'll see will be in News Feed, where you can expect to see more from your friends, family and groups", Mr Zuckerberg said.

The Chilean couple married in a civil ceremony in 2010 but were never formally Wednesday in the eyes of the Catholic Church. What he told us was very important: he told us "this is the sacrament that the world needs, the sacrament of marriage".

Facebook said that news outlets that are "broadly trusted" might see a huge uptick in traffic, while less trusted sources may see a downswing.

You may also get to have a say in the trustworthiness of a news outlet after Zuckerberg announced he will use member surveys to identify high-quality outlets.

Facebook has said time and time again that it will do more to fight the problem of fake news on the social network, and the company's latest idea is to simply ask users which news sources they know and trust.
