Twitter Says World Leaders Like Trump Have Special Status

The company also sought to counter assertions that controversial figures like Trump were kept on the platform largely because they helped Twitter's bottom line.

"Blocking a world leader from Twitter or removing their controversial Tweets would hide important information people should be able to see and debate", the post said.

In a blog post the company said its goal "is to serve and help advance the global, public conversation" and therefore would not remove content from elected leaders.

The company said that it does review tweets by world leaders and enforces its rules accordingly, leaving open the possibility that it could take down some material posted by them.

Storm Eleanor on the way
