Kids Are Counting on Congress to Protect Their Health

Long-term deal for children's health again eludes Congress

In New York, more than 300,000 children receive coverage through the Children's Health Insurance Program. Thirty-one states are in jeopardy of seeing the funding vanish sooner than expected, according to the report. I am appalled by the Congressional Republican leadership's misplaced priority in pushing thru the Deficit swelling $ 1.4 Trillon Tax Cut bill and not renewing in time, an important program that insures Children - who are the future of our great nation. For children already enrolled in the program, a lack of funding could end the program completely by February 1st.

"It seems the Republican-controlled congress is trying to cut taxes instead for big corporations instead of providing healthcare to children". Like the Children's Health Insurance Program, funding for community health centers expired this year. Since then, some states have relied on unspent funds to keep it going.

One vote ends GOP majority in Va. state house
The three-judge panel reviewing the recount Wednesday certified the race as tied with 11,608 votes for both Yancey and Simonds. A recount is set begin for a Virginia House of Delegates race that could alter the power dynamic in Richmond.

"It's incredibly frustrating it's taken so long and such great lengths to fund this historically bipartisan program, but we are encouraged that we are now a step closer to seeing this critical extension become law", Walden said last week in a statement with Texas Rep. Michael C. Burgess, who chairs the panel's Health Subcommittee. More than 100,000 low-income children, young adults, and pregnant women in MI alone could lose their coverage. Families just hoping to continue to have coverage for their families into the new year. Less than 10 percent would qualify for Medicaid, she says, and many families would find subsidized coverage for children in the Affordable Care Act's online marketplaces too costly because it often comes with higher premiums, copayments and deductibles.

Some states like Alabama and Virginia are sending notices to families warning them their children's insurance may not be renewed. Alabama has one of the broadest eligibility levels - 317 percent of the poverty level, or $78,000 for a family of four. Many states are at risk of running out of CHIP money by the end of January. The 20-year-old program cost about $15.6 billion in fiscal 2016, funded nearly entirely by the federal government.

North Carolina had the 5th fastest growing population in 2016-17
Be that as it may, net worldwide relocation diminished by 1.8 percent - the main drop since 2012 to 2013. In 2017, 38.0 percent of the nation's population lived in the South and 23.8 percent lived in the West.

But as Congress rushed Thursday to pass short-term pending legislation preventing a weekend federal shutdown and leave town for the holidays, unsettled disputes over health care, immigration and other issues fell by the wayside for lawmakers to address next year.

The Senate Finance Committee easily approved its own five-year measure in October, but that bill lacked offsetting savings to pay for the extra money.
