United Nations aid workers return to Yemen on first flight to Sanaa

Workers unload aid shipment from a plane at the Sanaa airport Yemen on Friday

A flight carrying humanitarian aid worker landed in Sanaa, the first after a almost three week blockade imposed by the Saudi-led military coalition, an official of the U.N.'s World Food Programme (WFP) said.

"First plane landed in Sanaa this morning with humanitarian aid workers", Abeer Etefa, WFP regional spokeswoman told Reuters in an email on Saturday.

The coalition has given clearance for U.N. flights in and out of Sanaa from Amman on Saturday, involving the regular rotation of aid workers, said Jens Laerke, spokesman of the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

The Saudi-led coalition fighting the armed Houthi movement in Yemen said on Wednesday it would allow aid in through the Red Sea ports of Hodeidah and Salif, as well as United Nations flights to Sanaa, but there has been no confirmation of any aid deliveries yet.

Forecast: Sunny, windy and possibly a record-breaking high temperature
Sunny skies should be with us again Saturday , but it should not be as warm with high temperatures in the upper 60s. Mostly fair skies with afternoon temperatures in the 70s were found over our area Thanksgiving afternoon.

Millions in Yemen are at immediate risk if food aid and the supply of fuel for pumping clean water are interrupted, he said.

However, the coalition's blockade has remained on Yemen's seaport of Hodeidah, which has cut off food, medicine and fuel imports to the Yemeni northern population where more than 7 million people are on the brink of starvation.

The missile was intercepted near Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport, sparking a war of words between Tehran and Riyadh, which accused Iran of "direct aggression" and supplying arms to the Houthis.

"After more than two weeks of blockade of these ports, there are various kinds of supplies essential for fighting starvation, for fighting cholera and other types of humanitarian threats that millions of people are facing in Yemen today", Laerke said.

Another message mention that they (the ones who have hanged the body) do not hang effigies. But the close reading of the message written on stones near the body shows the otherwise.

On Thursday, Qatar's foreign minister attacked Saudi Arabia over what he called a "humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen".

The coalition has asked the United Nations to send a team to discuss ways of bolstering its UNVIM programme which was agreed in 2015 to allow commercial ships to enter Hodeidah.

The conflict in Yemen pits Houthi rebels and forces loyal to Yemen's ousted president against the internationally recognized government and its main backer, the Saudi-led coalition.

The UN says a continuation of the two-week blockade would make Yemen's war-battered population more vulnerable to cholera and starvation.
