Bali volcano eruption not affecting flights: Indonesian authorities

'Do not panic': Bali's Mount Agung begins erupting

"Eruption of Mount Agung does not affect flights activities throughout Bali", Operation Director of Airnav Indonesia Wisnu Darjono said in a statement, referring to Bali worldwide airport.

He added that flights to Bali were still normal at present, adding that no single flight has been cancelled or re-routed.

The alert level for the volcano that had forced more than 100,000 residents to flee was lowered late last month, from the highest level to the third highest level, although authorities said there was still a chance of eruption.

Police describe him as a Hispanic male standing approximately 5 feet, 2 inches high and weighing approximately 126 pounds. Police say he had a missing bottom tooth, which might have been visible when he spoke or smiled.

"You should also be ready to evacuate at short notice", it added.

Indonesia is an archipelago in Southeast Asia, Is located on the "ring of fire" in the Pacific, where the collision of tectonic plates causes frequent earthquakes and a major volcanic activity.

Officials estimated concerns about an eruption over the past few months had cost Bali at least £80million in lost tourism and productivity as many local residents moved to shelters. An escalation in tremors can indicate magma is rising inside the mountain.

The disaster agency recommended against any activity within 6-7.5km of the crater.

Australia left its travel advice unchanged and told citizens to "monitor local media reports, follow the instructions of local authorities, and stay outside the existing exclusion zone".

The number of evacuees dropped to about 30,000 after the alert level was lowered.

It is unknown how long the volcano may erupt for and it is even possible that the activity is the last that will be seen for some time.
